Halifax doctor Nebojsa Sparavalo has been charged with sexual assault and sexual exploitation after allegedly touching a 17-year-old boy, Halifax Regional Police said Tuesday.

The assault allegedly happened in March 2015 when the teen was in the Victoria General hospital to undergo a medical procedure.

Police said the 64-year-old doctor touched the boy in a sexual manner over his clothing after the procedure was completed.

The teen reported the assault in October 2015.

A spokesman for the Nova Scotia Health Authority said Sparavalo is off on personal leave and the authority will not comment any further on the matter because it’s before the court.

Sparavalo will appear in Halifax provincial court in April.
