A husband and wife face charges in the death of Eneas Emilio Perdomo last July.
The five-year old boy was taken to the Alberta Children’s Hospital on July 10, 2015 with injuries that family members claimed were due to numerous accidents.
Staff at the hospital noticed swelling and bruising on the little boy’s body that were not consistent with activities of a child his age. He died a week later and an autopsy determined that he died from blunt force trauma to his head.
On Friday, Allan Perdomo Lopez and Carolina Del Carmen Perdomo were arrested and charged with manslaughter in connection with Eneas Emilio Perdomo’s death. Police believe the accused are the boy’s grandfather and step-grandmother.
“Everything to our investigation to date, including the immigration of Emilio into Canada and all the immigration documents that we have that were provided to Immigration Canada, show Allan to be the biological grandfather of Emilio,” explained CPS Acting Staff Sgt. Michael Cavilla.
Cavilla says Emilio was originally from Mexico City but relocated to Canada in February 2015. He lived in Calgary with Allan and Carolina and their three children, two of which were teenagers and the third a woman in her early 20s .
Emilio’s mother, who is also Allan Perdomo’s daughter, remained in Mexico while her son pursued a better life in Canada.
Allan and Carolina Perdomo remain in custody and are scheduled to appear in court on Monday.
The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information on the homicide is asked to call the Calgary Police Service non-emergency line at 403-266-1234 or the Homicide Unit Tip Line at 403-428-8877. Tips can also be left anonymously by contacting Crime Stoppers using any of the following methods:
