Montreal police are setting up a command post downtown later today as they investigate a fatal attack on a homeless man earlier this summer.

Police say a 33-year-old man was assaulted by three men on de la Montagne Street between Sherbrooke Street and de Maisonneuve Boulevard around 4 a.m. July 22.

The suspects, three black men in their 30s, fled in a Honda sedan with tinted windows and mag wheels.

The victim died of his injuries in hospital Aug. 11, 21 days later.

Police have not released the man’s identity. His death is the 13th homicide on the island of Montreal in 2016.

Police will be back at the scene of the assault starting at 4 p.m. in the hope that anyone with information about the attack or the suspects will come forward.
