Zimbabwe-born entrepreneur Trish Mandewo, an RBC Top 25 Canadian Immigrant (2017), has proven to be a community dynamo since arriving in Canada in 2009. Not only has she had successes as an entrepreneur, consultant and founder of Women’s Collaborative Hub, a non-profit women’s empowerment organization, she has been actively involved in her city of Coquitlam, B.C., as a volunteer, board member and community leader.
At the time of her Top 25 win last year, she said: ““I truly found myself and my voice in Canada. I enjoy sharing my journey and inspiring others. My next goal is to run for political office. By assuming a leadership role, I hope to bring to the forefront issues affecting new immigrant women and kids.”
Now, she’s done just that. In June, Mandewo announced her candidacy in the upcoming municipal elections as a Coquitlam city councillor.
