Arcade Fire's Win Butler acquires Canadian citizenship

A week and change after Canada Day, Win Butler has become a card-carrying Canadian.

The Arcade Fire leader posted the news on Instagram, Tuesday evening.

“Very honoured to finally be a Canadian Citizen,” he wrote, followed by an emoji of the flag.

“I’ve lived in Montreal for half my life,” he continued, “so it feels very natural to have both passports now! Had to wear the Canadian Tuxedo, and yes Mounties are real.”

The accompanying picture shows Butler in a black brimmed hat, sporting a faded denim shirt, jean jacket and jeans, and a big smile. He was flanked by Ahmed Hussen, minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, as well as several officials, children and a member of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. In front of them was a giant cake decorated with a Canadian flag.
